The revival of a family restaurant, “Kyra Elli”, by the second and third generation of restaurant owners who have picked up the threads of the family business. The objective was to preserve the traditional style of the old famous tavern and adapt it to modern world requirements. The owners played a key role in this exercise, as they had explained their preference in terms of style right from the outset. Everything, the design and architectural layout of indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as the selection of materials, was done according to a specific plan, a strict timetable and under rigorous supervision.
The exterior structures and aesthetics of the building were preserved to create a dining place with a timeless and ergonomic character, but the interior was changed: the openings and the main hall were enlarged and the location of restrooms was changed. The kitchen was equipped with modern appliances. The original building had a steel frame that was reinforced to accommodate the new openings and the new interior and exterior wall cladding. The large garden, one of the clear advantages of the place, was reconfigured is such a way as to be reminiscent of old times when materials were simpler (e.g. cast-iron canopy brackets, gravel on the ground instead of paving, etc.).
